Multifaith Initiative to End Mass Incarceration
After developing and delivering a national narrative change program for the Multifaith Initiative to End Mass Incarceration (M-EMI), our marketing communications work expanded into other programmatic areas. Founded in 2018 by Rev. Dr. Raphael G. Warnock, Senior Pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church and Georgia State Senator, M-EMI works through a nationwide network of faith leaders, communities and activists to demand an end to mass incarceration in the criminal legal system.

Below are some examples of Phillips & Marek’s work, which ranges from establishing a consist brand based upon the organization’s existing logo to supporting high-profile events.
Branded Materials
While M-EMI has worked with a logo that was established when the organization launched, no brand standards were ever put into place until Phillips & Marek was engaged. The first order of business was refining the logo. We then created an overview brochure with clear messaging, developed presentation templates and produced a variety of materials needed for community engagements.

Social Media
To strengthen the M-EMI brand, Phillips & Marek established guidelines around social media messaging and graphics. Great attention was paid to breaking news, action alerts and useful information needed by those working to end mass incarceration.

Good Trouble Lab
In the spirit of the late Congressman John Lewis, the Good Trouble Lab was created to educate and empower social justice students and activists to help end mass incarceration in their communities. Organizations like ACLU Atlanta, Barred Business and Southern Center for Human Rights partnered in the program. There also was an opportunity for participants to visit with representatives from local social justice organizations and register for upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Freedom Conversations
The Freedom Conversations served as a continuation of the momentum gained at the 2024 national M-EMI conference in Dallas. A series of monthly webinars with companion toolkits led individuals and working groups through local actions that everyone could implement in their own communities. Phillips & Marek’s support of this program included extensive editing and graphic design of the online toolkits, as well as editing the webinar videos for YouTube.

Human Rights Roundtable at The Carter Center
In collaboration with The Carter Center (TCC), the Human Rights Roundtable was a convening of faith leaders, justice-impacted people, academics and activists to drive policy reforms for access to justice in the “Deep South.” We created all branded materials, coordinated logistics with the TCC team and provided on-site support.
